Interesting question whether you apply it to hetero or homo sexuality.
The reason is quite simple: teh more intense the animal instinct the more suppression of it is necessary to drive us from selfish to prosocial behavior. (Really, that’s the answer).
Sex, Drugs, Consumption, Novelty, etc. Are all forms of hyperconsumption that DON”T require discipline for the purpose of delying gratification, thereby producing teh AGENCY that is the purpose of all human domestication by neotenic evolution.
That’s the science.
I might need to explain it to you.
But basically, domesticating humans is costly.
Or parenting would be trivial.
And government wouldn’t be necessary.
