STONE WORK IS LOW TECH AND SLOW BUT GLORIOUS

The four step process of all stone sculpture:
1. Drililng and Splitting
2. Cutting and Chiseling
3. Shaping and Texturing
4. Finishing

1. Copper and Sand: This method involves using a copper saw or drill in combination with sand. The sand acts as an abrasive, getting between the copper tool and the stone and slowly wearing the stone away. Then wooden wedge and water to split.

2. Copper and Bronze Tools: The ancient Egyptians also used tools made of copper and later bronze to cut softer stone. These tools would have been similar to modern chisels and saws, but less efficient due to the softness of the metal.

3. Dolerite Balls: Dolerite, a hard, volcanic rock was shaped into ball-like tools that were used to pound and fracture the softer limestone and sandstone commonly used in Egyptian construction.

4. Sand Abrasion: Especially for harder stones like granite, the Egyptians used a technique involving sand abrasion.

It’s not complicated.
