Think of it this way: the smart fraction determines competitiveness, and the ration between them and the rest of the population determines the general advantage or drag on it.
We have something like 170M Europeans who have on average a 100-103 IQ depending upon the original ethnic group. Japan has 125M. They have an advantage in smart fraction over us. AND they’re a homogenous high trust culture.
Think of India. 1.3B people and eight times our population, but an IQ (debated) of 76 (max 83). That means despite a much lower IQ (more than a standard deviation at least, as high as 1.6 lower. But they produce an absurd number of people over 125 anyway, because of the size of the population. And despite that they have trouble governing and producing an economy because of the drag.
We can’t trust any numbers coming out of China, and academic performance in US universities show their academic records are largely nonsense. We don’t even really know their population. It looks vastly overstated. We know that aside from government ‘leaders’ and a few elites they’re desperately poor. Even so with that population they are producing CITIES of engineers.
