Stoicism is reducible to the sum total of the “Greek way”. The Greeks, like the Romans, like the Atlantics, like the Americans, overexpanded, and in the absence of a ‘law’ (body of rules) for the ‘Greek > Roman > European > Anglosphere way, there is no means of intergenerational transfer or indoctrination sufficient to compensate for over expansion in the old world or ‘over-inclusion’ in the present age.
In other words, not means of resistance to degradation, given that the european way is the most cognitively, psychologically, and emotionally costly group strategy ever invented by mankind, because it maximizes individual responsibility and accountability for the self, the private, and the common.
So as usual, Christianity did provide a means for women and slaves and immigrants to obtain status and pretense of virtue and morality by ‘doing no harm’ instead of the Greek “contributing to the commons” (that insight should stick with you if you can manage it.).
But that integration of women, slaves, immigrants, created a pathway for the formation of elites, and elite institutions that favored their (irresponsibility) interests over the aristocratic (responsibility) interests, and between overexpansion, decline in reproduction, over-immigration, and warfare against the barbarians, the aristocracy and the civilization collapsed, and the religion prevented the aristocratic restoration of the empire
And the Christians set about destroying the arts, letters, schools, and killing or outcasting the philosophers ending the ‘greek way’ just like the marxist-to-woke purge of the academy, state, and media has occurred today.
So for those reasons (a) we are too tolerant of the Marxists, the Jewish intellectuals, and the Muslims who come to Europe to undermine us as did the Jewish Christians before them. And too tolerant of those who assist them in buying into their sedition against our civilization. (b) the British stored the european nation state to the greek model, and restored greco empiricism in reason and law, and smith restored the ethics of peace through reciprocity (c) the Americans did a fair job of documenting this in the constitution but only a ‘fair’ job. There are about eight major holes in it that we need to fix (with my excruciating level of precision. 😉 ) (d) We are (the rest of the institute and I) documenting it as a strictly constructed scientific (from first principles) law so that we have a ‘bible’ of European civ that is inviolable across time and space.
The remaining effort is to reform the natural law negative and the Christian love positiva into a reformation of the stoic method that can be taught as the equivalent of a non-false religion.
If I live long enough. 😉
Cheers
