THE US HISPANIC LIFESPAN PARADOX EXPLAINED
Hispanics SHOULD have shorter lifespans than whites. Hispanics are less neotenic than whites, because they are higher in anatolian farmer(92), MENA(south eurasian, 84), African(70), and Amerindian-Siberian(86) admixture.
(This is why increases in Hispanic and African population are the causes for the aggregate decline in US average intelligence.)
However:
They have lower mortality rates in seven out of the 10 leading causes of death in the US, even though they are twice as likely to be living under the poverty line and three times more likely to lack health insurance, and more succeptible to diabetes.
Experts attribute this “Hispanic paradox” to a number of factors.
1) The population tends to be younger, compared to other demographic groups.
2) They have lower smoking rates, better diet and better general health – at least in the first few years after immigrating into the US.
3) Some analysts also believe that their family ties are stronger and help build a sense of community, contributing to a better health – especially in relation to mental health
There is something we can all learn from #2 and #3. 😉
