Every time I spend even a few hours working on catching up, I find African modernization is overwhelming (like everyone else does) and one of the great challenges of the planet (they’ll do fine over time). And while the problems are hard and the economics and politics are nearly impossible, the truth is that the people of Africa (other than the Marxists and the Islamists), at least the ones I talk to or exchange messages and email with, are always a joy to talk to. They don’t have silly ideas that make them arrogant about ideology or anything else. They are practical and want to work for a better life. If people have illusions of the past, they are far harder to help with realisms of the future.

Just like we used to be. 🙁
