Not sure that makes much sense, but maybe I don’t understand the context you’re working from. I’m not sure the North would have entered WW1. Because the during-and-post civil war federal centralization wouldn’t have occurred. Economic interdependence between agrarian south and west and northern manufacturing would have been too useful to really ‘hold a grudge’. And without the destruction of the south, given the rapid advancements of the 1880s to 1910 it’s hard to see the south not applying industrialization to at least agriculture, and avoiding the immigration problems caused in the north.
