I’m not sure that’s true, but we’d have to clarify a bit.
Given: Sentience > Awareness > Consciousness > “Thinking” > Reasoning > Calculating > Computing.
AFAIK, consciousness is only necessary for social animals and arose to facilitate social->cooperative behavior.
